Common Questions About Tinting Your Car

Tint helps improve the life of your car while also making the ride more comfortable. It protects the interior from fading and warping, protects you from UV rays, and diminishes eye fatigue.

No. In a study involving both young and elderly people, window tint was shown to have no statistical effect on vision.

Yes. Since the tint is on the inside of your car, it shouldn’t be affected. However, make sure no water gets inside your car and they clean your windows on the inside with Ammonia-free glass cleaner.

No. Tint is on the inside of your windows and, if you keep your windows closed until cured (about 4-7 days), there shouldn’t be any problems.

Standard tint films generally last around 5 years. The 3M window tint that we use at Tinting Atlanta usually lasts at least 15 years, and often longer if properly maintained.

  • Monitor your tint for imperfections. Vertical streaks could mean that your window is rubbing when you put it up and down. This will quickly wear out the window tint.
  • Avoid abrasive cleaners and use soft cloths when cleaning
  • Remove bubbles, and creases as soon as you see them forming.

Yes. Rolling your windows down prematurely can harm the window tint just like washing your windows too soon can. While four days is usually long enough to wait, you might want to wait a week to be on the safe side.

Yes! It is perfectly normal to see bubbles during the drying process, which can last up to 14 days. If you see bubbles lasting longer, there could be an issue.

Keeping your vehicle in direct sunlight (outside of a garage) is the best method for the film to naturally dry.

Most cars come from the factory with tinted glass (different from window film that is applied when you want to tint your windows after you buy the vehicle). The typical visual light transmission (VLT) of factory glass is 15-26%.

There are two main considerations when cleaning tinted windows

  • Use an ammonia free cleaner. A few good options are Invisible Glass, and Meguiar’s Glass Cleaner.
  • Use soft microfiber cloths when cleaning the windows. Even household items like paper towel with a rougher surface can damage tinted windows.
